Keratoconus is a common eye disease that affects the cornea. As the transparent front window of the eye, the cornea can facilitate focusing light for clear vision. Keratoconus will gradually cause the cornea to lose its shape, thickness, and transparency. As a result, the cornea's spherical (round) form will be distorted and become a cone-like shape over time. Since light cannot come to a sharp focus at the back of the eye with keratoconus, blurry and glary vision will happen eventually if left untreated.

Before diagnosing or managing keratoconus, it is essential taking corneal topography and anterior OCT scan of the cornea. Although there is no known cure for keratoconus, specially designed soft lenses or large-yet-comfortable rigid lenses can correct vision and sometimes even rehabilitate the irregular cornea gently. The corneal collagen crosslinking procedure, which corneal specialists can perform, helps to stabilise the progression of the disease.
